The Board consists of 9 ‘guardians’, bringing
both broad and specialist experience to the table. The Board
is the Club’s principle governing committee and is responsible
for strategy and finance as well as ensuring that tradition
and continuity are balanced by the need to meet developing
needs and trends.
J D H Briggs Esq
Chairman
John Briggs lives and works in London. He is married with
one son at University.
He joined the Club in 1993. He is the third generation and
5th member of his family to belong. He was co-opted to the
Board in 1999 and elected the following year. He became vice-chairman
in 2001 and Chairman in 2003.
He is a solicitor working part-time in private practice and
deals with a variety of work. He is also a company director
and fundraiser and adviser to charities.
He is a Freeman of the City of London and a member if the
Court of the Worshipful Company of Poulters.
Admiral the Lord Boyce GCB OBE DL
Vice-Chairman
Main career of 42 years in Royal Navy, culminating in becoming
First Sea Lord 1998-2001 and subsequently Chief of Defence
Staff (professional head of Armed Forces) 2001-2003.
Current appointment, Lord Warden and Admiral of the Cinque
Ports and Constable of Dover Castle.
Now a non-executive Director on two plc boards; Cross-bencher
in the house of Lords; and has Trustee/Patron/Chairman/Governor/President
appointments in a large number of charities.
Interests: Opera, ballet, racquet sports and windsurfing
C C Blakey Esq OBE RD JP
Aged 64. Educated at HMS “Conway”. Served as
Midshipman List 1 RNR and then moved to List 3. Spent 30 years
in the textile industry, subsequently combined careers in
property investment and public service. Served as Chairman
of Folkestone and Hythe Petty Sessional Division and Chairman
of Kent Probation Committee - awarded OBE for Services to
the Rehabilitation of Offenders. Latterly Chaired two National
Health Service Hospital Trusts in the South East of England.
Currently Chairman of Kentstone Properties Plc and Director
of Middle East Navigation Aid Services (“MENAS”).
Has been a Member of the Club since 1987 and served as a Pension
Trustee.
G G Buxton-Smither Esq
Following a career in aviation, he became a consultant on
anti-ballistics and counter-surveillance technologies. He
then switched to sports science, writing and photo-journalism
and had 2 books published and a film made. He later used his
science and specialist communications experience in the service
of the nuclear industry during which time he was asked to
conduct part of an inquiry into a nuclear incident in the
UK. He is an international environmental awards jurist. He
holds a number of directorships and is a member of various
professional associations.
R L H Crawford Esq BA CA ATII
Bob is the owner of Jeffrey Crawford & Co, a firm of
Chartered Accountants and Chartered Tax Advisors founded in
1979 and located in Edinburgh and London.
He qualified as a CA in 1974 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser
in 1982. From 1974 he variously worked in Iran for a large
international CA practice and then lectured at University
in Edinburgh until 1986.
The firm specialises in taxation matters, both domestically
and internationally, which results in Bob travelling abroad
frequently.
As well as being the Secretariat for the International Network
of Accountants and Auditors (INAA) he sits on several technical
committees of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants
of Scotland (ICAS) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
In March 2005 he was appointed Convener of ICAS Taxation Practices
Committee
Bob lectures extensively, often in the low tax jurisdictions
of the channel Islands and Isle of Man on international tax
matters.
